Biography

Dawn Matthis was born in Manhattan, New York. Her biological mother and father are unknown. She is sister to Mark Matthis, who shares her powers. As an infant, she was experimented on by an organization called The Eye, led by eyeglass manufacturing company Treybourne Optics. The Eye was in charge of a secret military project designed to create super soldiers. She and her brother were raised in the laboratory Oculus Dexter until they were young toddlers.The experimental serum Z0-B1 produced no symptoms or powers earlier on. the eye deemed this experiment a failure and was ready to dispose of the children. A young scientist instead brought them to an orphanage from which they were adopted by an 'aspiring' couple. This young scientist was assassinated, but the two children were never identified.It wasn't until they were pre-teens their powers began to surge. strength beyond that of a normal human. As the years went on, the side effects grew, developing a need for flesh in order to survive. First animals, then humans. Their mother did her best to protect them, while their father resented them for their lack of normalcy and the mother's endangerment. Their father became abusive, which caused them both to find different outlets for their behaviors. Dawn would attend church, while Mark spent his time using his abilities for petty crime and theft.The father threatened to leave them all with nothing, scolding her for protecting their sinful behaviors, going as far as to say she was a pawn of the devil and his children.Their mother took her own life.Blaming Mark and his sister, their father attempted to choke him, from which mark defended himself, accidentally killing and eating their father in the aftermath.Mark was on the run, joining up with gangs and working his way to the top of a criminal organization. Dawn resented her brother's life of crime but lived on her own, eventually losing her home and living in her car.After Dawn caught some public eye. Evelyn Winters, a friend of Dawn's from school, developed a serum that allowed Dawn to stomp out her hunger, a serum she would apply daily. If she went too long without it, her powers would become out of control and she'd once again hunger for flesh. with this serum and her abilities under control, Dawn began her life as a vigilante known as Zombie-Girl, meeting other heroes, villains, and allies.Once the eye caught wind of her heroics and expanded territory, they soon realized it was their old experiment running through the streets. They targeted her in order to reclaim her. Dawn, Evelyn, and other rogue experiments formed IRIS, a special operations vigilante team dedicated to disarming the eye and their sinister plans and countering their operations.The zombie met another hero not too long after, a man who's superpowers would change into a powerful being. They quickly became friends, the homeless blonde taking refuge in her friend's apartment. The gang leader they were investigating found them in the apartment, destroying it. The hero strangely vanished not too long after, leaving Dawn to pick up where they left off.Dawn, now on her own and back living on the streets, still patrols the streets as a vigilante and still works with those who need her. She found a calling for cooking, attending a culinary school in town. The stint didn't last long, as she came to realize it wasn't what she wanted to do. She moved in with a friend, Victoria, who suggested she teach self-defense classes. Taking the idea and running with it, Dawn has set out to empower those who feel like they can't defend themselves in their own neighborhoods and homes.

Headcanons

1. Dawn has severe abandonment issues. This is due to the knowledge she acquired from The Eye about her birth parents giving her up to be experimented on, as well as her adopted mother's suicide and brother killing their adopted father and fleeing. She's had multiple partners leave her or pass away since then, only adding to the stress.

2. She doesn't eat flesh like her brother. She takes injections twice a week called TRT (The Romero Treatment) which keep her from having hunger problems.

3. Dawn hates her job as a waitress. This is because customers tend to be rude, and she often hears patrons coming in and talking bad about Zombie-Girl, her superheroine persona, despite the fact she tries to help the community.

4. Out of the IRIS team, Dawn is surprisingly the most moral out of all of them. Ayami, the leader, has a strong stance on eliminating the target, Frostfire never fully developed a stance on killing enemies, while Dawn has never killed an enemy and has since refused.
